Beginning Performing Arts Classes for Kids with The Young Innovators Collective

Our 8 week sessions are designed for flexibility for families and the chance to explore for new artists, ages 3 - 12.

What Makes Our Classes Different?

We use a project - based model so that children are involved every step of the way.

Past Projects

1. Tina Trickerster
The class came up with ideas for a play that they wanted Mr. Parker to create. We performed the play and our film crew did a behind the scenes video of rehearsals.

2. Creating Our Own Ballet
Yes, you read that right! We came up with a story line together and Ms. Taylor created a script. Each dancer had the chance to narrate part of the story. This was put to music and we came up with 4 different mini dances to create our story ballet.

3. Monologues
Each student chose their favorite monologue from our "monologue gallery." After receiving individualized coaching - the students chose their own set design and costumes

This Session's Projects -
Our theater students will be learning selections from the musical Wonka and creating set pieces. Our dancers will creating ballets and set pieces. Our film makers will be collaborating on original films.

Our Cohort Model

While traditional dance classes may have 12+ children, we have designed our classes to run in 8 week sessions within a small cohort of children. This ensures consistency and a place to build community which creates a safe foundation for new artists.

First

8:1 Class Ratios: Our class ratios are small so that your child is always seen and heard. Our instructors are there to make sure each child's first artistic experience is positive.

Community Focused: We practice intentional community building through games that focus on connection and rapport building. Our goal is to have every child leave our 8 week session with a new friend (or two).

Families First: It is important to us that you are involved with every step of the way. Want to watch class? Of course. Want to have a quick phone call about your child's progress? Definitely. Our programs are built with the whole family in mind and communication is key.

Spring Classes Are Open — Limited to 8 Kids Per Class

What Families Have to Say

"The Young Innovators have been incredible for our son. The program is so well-organized, and the instructors are patient, encouraging, and truly know how to bring out the best in every child. They’ve created a safe, welcoming space where kids feel comfortable expressing themselves and trying new things.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my child is too shy?

We believe that every child has the ability to learn new skills, connect with classmates, and eventually perform. It just happens at a different speed for each child. Our classes are structured intentionally to develop confidence and bravery in budding artists.

Class Design:

  • Week 1-2: Teaching artists build class community through games, ice breakers and rapport building with each child

  • Week 3-4: Technique comes to the forefront of each class in a hands on and engaging manner

  • Week 5-6: We layer on performance aspects to the class. At this point, students are ready because of the trust and foundation they have built

My child has a lot of energy.

Will they struggle to participate?

We see energy as a great thing to have! This energy can be sculpted into passion and enthusiasm for an artistic craft.

Our Teaching Artists are trained on different methods that allow them to positively redirect this energy into dance, theater games, acting in films, etc.

"We tried a performing arts class before and my child didn't enjoy it.

What makes this different?

Our approach to the performing arts is "child - centered." The number one goal is to keep the kids safe, while ensuring they have a good time. Adding the project based element to our classes has also ensured that students feel involved along the way.

This is done with smaller class sizes, well trained instructors, and lots of fun!

We are intentional in making sure that the class structure fits the needs of the group.

We are interested, but we will miss a few weeks for vacation.

Do we have to sign up for the whole 8 weeks?

We have begun to offer flexible 6 or 7 week options. This came out of a need for families that wanted to participate, but may have had prior engagements.

If you would like to explore this option please email us directly at connect@theyounginnovatorscollective.com or text/call us at 619 - 609 - 7684.

What if my child wants to stop after the first class or two?

We do not offer trial classes because our first focus is on community. It can be distracting and disengaging to have different children joining the class each week.

However, we do want to provide flexibity for your child and for your family. If your child is not enjoying the classes after a "2 class try" we will refund your session one hundred percent. No questions asked.

Our Classes

Our classes are designed for KIDS.  This means they are fun, engaging, and silly! We want kids to leave class on Saturday mornings saying, "When is the next class?"
